Parenting

Parenthood can be very demanding, but it is also very fulfilling.

It may also be hard to balance the tasks of providing for your child economically (earning a living) as well as emotionally (being there to care of your child).

If you are a single parent, you may need to sacrifice some of your own needs and freedom.

Parenting Options

Parenting can look very different for each family, and that’s a good thing!

It gives you more options, and it can help you create a plan for your future that fits in both a child and other important goals you may want to pursue.

What are some of the Considerations?

If you think parenting is an option for you, but you have concerns about money, baby supplies, caregiving or your parenting skills, you're not alone. Help is available!

Breaking the news to my partner

Deciding whether to tell the baby’s father that you’re pregnant can feel overwhelming.

In Singapore, you are not legally required to inform him — the choice is yours.

If You Choose to Tell Him

You may feel unsure about how he will react, and that’s normal. Preparing what you want to say can help you feel clearer and more confident. Practising with someone you trust or with an aLife Resource Facilitator may also help. His first reaction may not be his final stance — some people need time to process unexpected news. If he is supportive, you can discuss what the pregnancy means for both of you moving forward.

If You Choose Not to Tell Him

Some women decide not to share the news due to safety, low involvement, or personal circumstances. If this is you, you still have support and do not need to navigate this alone.

If He Is Unsupportive

If he is dismissive, uninvolved or refuses to engage, there are still options. aLife can help you plan next steps and explore mediation if suitable.

Whatever you decide, aLife is here to support you with clarity, dignity and care.
