Financial Considerations
What are some of the financial aspects I have to consider?

Pregnancy-related Costs
Prenatal packages which include gynaecologist visits and ultrasound scans may cost between S$900 in a public hospital to S$2000 at a private clinic. This cost excludes any optional testing that your gynaecologist may advise you to have.

Depending whether you choose public or private and the type of delivery (ie vaginal or caesarean), you can expect to spend anywhere between $5,500 to $15,000 to deliver your baby.

Through the Medisave Maternity Package (MMP), Singaporeans can use their Medisave for delivery expenses, as well as pre-delivery medical expenses such as consultations and ultrasound. Under the MMP, parents can withdraw S$900 for pre-delivery medical expenses.
How much does it cost to raise a baby in the 1st year

Consumables (e.g. Milk powder, diapers) – $2,600
Non-consumables (e.g. Stroller, Milk bottles) – $1,800
Medical fees at polyclinics – Nominal
Infant care service after subsidy – $8,400

Baby Bonus & Child Development Account

The Baby Bonus Scheme gives out cash grants to married couples upon the arrival of their baby when they open a Child Development Account (CDA). The scheme includes a cash gift, CDA First Step grant, and Government matching to savings in the child’s CDA.
Single mothers are eligible to open a CDA for their baby and enjoy the CDA First Step grant and Government matching, but they will not receive the cash gift.
The CDA account can be used to pay for educational and healthcare expenses at all Baby Bonus Approved Institutions.
Other Resources
If you need more help, there are various assistance programmes offered by charitable organisations, contact the family service centre (FSC) located nearest to your home for assistance and referrals.

Marriage and Parenthood Schemes
The Government offers a number of financing schemes to help Singapore Citizens with the costs of conception support, and maternity and newborn care.

You may also seek assistance from the medical social worker at the public hospital for information and assistance, if you are unable to afford the healthcare costs.

Child Maintenance
For Married Moms & Child’s Birth Cert with Father’s Name:
Under the law, both biological parents have to provide financial support of his or her children, regardless of whether they are legitimate or illegitimate until they reach 21 years old.
If it is proven that a parent has refused to provide reasonable maintenance for a child who is unable to
support himself, the court may order that the parent pay a monthly payment or a one-time lump sum
for the maintenance of the child.

For Single Moms & Child’s Birth Cert without Father’s Name:
If the father of the child disputes paternity. Do a DNA test to prove paternity.
For paternity claim, Court can mandate the father to do the legal DNA test.
If DNA test proves paternity, then can legally claim for child maintenance.
